The Communications Working Group is made up communications staff across the Detention Forum’s member organisations. Whilst helping support each working group raise awareness of their respective issue-focus, the Communications Working Group also campaigns against the Government’s ongoing, and active, policy of immigration detention more generally.
We believe that detention is not the answer…for anyone. People are detained without a time limit, for months, sometimes even years. This harmful and expensive practice unnecessarily robs people of their dignity, spirit and lives. We need to work towards an immigration system that is based on fairness not force and alternatives to detention that are accountable and allow people to contribute to society.
The primary objective of the Communications Working Group is to encourage more groups and individuals to talk publicly about immigration detention so that the government cannot ignore the civil society’s demand that immigration detention must change.
